Social media marketing is the use of social media websites to market a company's products or services. Social media marketing is a broad category incorporating many mediums and types of marketing, including:


Facebook. Facebook is the world's largest social network with more than one billion monthly active users as of March 31, 2011. It was founded in 2004 and launched its advertising platform in 2007.


Twitter. Twitter allows you to send short messages or "tweets" to your followers, which can be viewed by anyone who follows you. Tweets are limited to 280 characters, but most people don't use this feature much because of the excessive character limit.


LinkedIn. LinkedIn was founded in 2002 and has grown into one of the biggest professional networking sites on the Internet today with over 100 million members worldwide, as well as 3 million companies using their business tools and services.


YouTube. YouTube is an online video sharing website owned by Google Inc., where users can upload, view and share videos across the web without any software needed to watch them on computers, mobile phones or other devices capable of accessing the Internet.
